It represents the city’s balcony and is the most artistic of the eight bridges which cross Canal Vena, the equivalent of Ponte di Rialto in Venice. It is a stone bridge built in 1685 under the authority of Morosini and embellished with Istria marble in 1762 to replace the wooden one, which was the scene of heavy fighting during the Chioggia war (1370-80). Once upon a time a beacon was placed there as an aid to seafarers.
