Auditorium of Saint Nicholas
Auditorium of Saint Nicholas
South of the Piazzetta Granaio we find the former Church of Saint Nicholas, a one-floor edifice dating back to 1322. It was most likely built over the foundations of another building dating back to 1211, over a portico with pillars made of Istria stone and was remodeled in 1864. Within a Gothic tabernacle is housed a work by Jacopo Sansovini, Madonna with child, made with painted papier mâché.
A fourteenth-century fresco fragment depicting the Virgin on a throne while she nurses the Child was recently discovered.
Its current destination is the auditorium.
