Trips in the Veneto Lagoon

The Veneto Lagoon is composed of mirrors of shallow water furrowed by natural and artificial canals, by lands which are periodically submerged by the tide and by islands on which there are certain inhabited areas.
Located between the Adriatic Sea and the fertile Veneto plain, the Veneto Lagoon, with its 550 km2 is the vastest wetland of the Mediterranean.

The Lagoon is separated from the sea by thin, sandy shores such as: the Cavallino Peninsula, the island of Lido and the coastline of Pellestrina. The sea is linked to the Lagoon by a series of these shores, known as "bocche di porto" (mouths of the port) and they are the mouths of the port for Lido, Malamocco and Chioggia.
The entire lagoon area, as well as hosting urban centres which are unique to the world for historical and architectural heritage, constitutes an extremely high number of natural and vegetable species, to be safeguarded and protected.
