The
Lagoon is separated from the sea by thin, sandy shores such as: the
Cavallino Peninsula, the island of Lido and the coastline of
Pellestrina. The sea is linked to the Lagoon by a series of these
shores, known as "bocche di porto" (mouths of the port)
and they are the mouths of the port for Lido, Malamocco and Chioggia.
The entire lagoon area, as well as hosting urban centres which are
unique to the world for historical and architectural heritage,
constitutes an extremely high number of natural and vegetable
species, to be safeguarded and protected.
